Rack 'Em Up
or
How to Create Your Own Weapons Rack for Under $25
by Sensei Steve Holy
If you have been training in the martial arts for any length of time, you
will quickly accumulate weapons. Before you know it, you have acquired
quite an arsenal. The question then arises; "How am I going to keep these
weapons stored and organized?"
The answer is simple, a quick shopping trip, $25, and about an hour or
your time and you will have created your own weapons rack.
Go to your local hardware store (Lowes, Menards, Walmart, etc.) and
purchase these items:
- (1) Rubbermaid Corner Tool Tower ($15.00) - There are other models
and types of tool holders available. Select the model or models,
if using more than one, that will best fit your space requirements
and amount of weapons in your arsenal.
- (1) Can of Krylon Fusion Spray Paint for Plastic Spray Paint - Black
($6.00) - Or you can choose any color you like, there is a wide
selection available.
Instructions:
- Open the Tool Tower box.
- Take the pieces outside or in the garage or to the desired location
that you will be able to paint the pieces.
- Spray paint the individual pieces black or the desired color.

(Painted pieces - waiting to dry)
- Wait for the paint to dry, the time it takes to dry will vary
depending on the temperature.
- Assemble the painted pieces, using the directions provided with the
purchased tool holder.
- Place your newly assembled weapons rack in the desired location of
your dojo/school.
- Lay out all of your weapons, to get a general idea of how you will
store and organize the weapons in the weapons rack.

- By using some creativity and imagination, you should be able to
figure out how to store your weapons. You may even want to drill new
holes or expand some of the holes, just be creative.
You have now your own weapons rack that will easily allow you to keep your
weapons organized and readily available for your next training session.
I chose the corner unit because it had that advantage of fitting into a
very small and tight space in the dojo. The area that I use to store my
weapons is in the corner by the electrical box and the stairs. This area
is really useless for the most part, and if necessary, I still have access
to the electrical panel. As you can see in the photo below, this once
useless area is now very useful.

In addition, for my particular situation, I can always purchase another tool holder and place them back to back in the same area as my weapons collection grows.
There you have it, less than $25 and about an hour of your time, you have created your own weapons rack and organized your weapons.
